Karsibór - The Green Island

The Isle of Karsibór is the smallest (14 km²) among the inhabited islands of Świnoujście. It was formed as a result of the digging of the Piastowski Canal in 1876 – 1888, for the length of 7.5 km, and came about by bisecting the south-eastern section of the Isle of Usedom. This has considerably facilitated and shortened the sailing to Szczecin. In honour of Emperor Frederic William III, the Canal was originally named “Kaiserfahrt”. Karsibór, together with the settlement operating under the same name, having around 1000 inhabitants, is a green oasis of peace, with unique natural values. Indeed, some people call these areas “the Wolin Polesie”,  as they resemble the swamps over the Prypeć river. The Isle is planted with impressive oaks which are referred to by the local people as “the trees of Gustav Adolf”. The story has...

The Spa Park

Prior to granting the municipal charter, the park area was covered with vast sandbanks, flooded with water and dotted with gnarled pine trees. As a result of extensive hydro-technical work, the entire area was transformed into the so-called new land , reinforced with shrub and tree plantations. The land was fully developed by the end of the 18 th Century, and extended since 1806, based on a geometric plan of alleys and circuses. A new development stage of the park area began with a decision on establishing the Świnoujście marina. Two piers were constructed, and in 1824, the first season was officially opened. The Old Spa House was also  built in 1825-1826, near the landing pier. Contacts were established at this time with the famous royal gardener, Peter Joseph Lenne, who was entrusted with drafting a park design. Lenne came to Świnoujście in 1826 and adjusted his design to the...

Walking and jogging

The Land of 44 Islands is a real paradise for the lovers of Nordic walking. The wide several-kilometres-long beaches in the Isle of Usedom, on both the Polish and German sides of the border, are undoubtedly the most suitable venue to practise this sport. The huge Spa Park, located between the Seaside District and the city centre, also encourages you to take a long walk, even in windy weather. While in the park, you will have a wonderful opportunity to explore Nature, including seeing a number of rare trees and shrubs. The forest area, connected with the forest growing in the German part of Usedom, constitutes another exceptional location to practice Nordic walking. Indeed, a while back, two running and walking paths were marked up in the forest at Moniuszki Street. These are intended for all of course, not just for Nordic walkers alone. In addition, by taking the seaside path along...
